CARNAGE!!!

I left for a week to see my family in Philadelphia, where I am having a fabulous time. But I will blog that for you all soon....
It all started two weeks ago-- Jackson popped up with a 1cm x 1cm bump right at the girth area--what a terrible location. On the first trip to the vet she excised some cells and gave me a salve to draw it out, which I did not expect to work, and lo and behold it did not! So my friend kindly took Jackson in for his SMALL surgery while I am gone. Mainly because it was in such a bad place and the girth was rubbing it raw. Linda sent me pics last night and this is what has become of a 1cm x 1cm bump!!!! HOLY .....! Being a nurse, I really feel now that I should have done it myself! (Not to mention the bill...) CARNAGE! Have any of you had any similar experiences???? Do you guys think this is going to SCAR? Lord above! My poor baby!

P.S. Winter--We will obviously have to abort riding plans for a couple of weeks, I had really hoped we would be able to go the non-surgical route....by the time we ride together you will be used to your new beautiful guy, eh?!!! :)

  1. Ouch! That hurts my riding nerve. What's their excuse for such a big cut? What were they trying to accomplish with the surgery? I guess it's a good thing there was nothing bigger, there'd be nothing left of your baby. Good luck with the healing and get some answers because that is a little excessive.

  2. That is ugly! Sometimes small surgery gets bigger! Hope it all heals up OK.

  3. Ouch! I hear treating it with baby oil once it has scabbed over can help with scaring.

  4. Oooo.. It might not scar. I would definitely keep novalson on it or something. Syd reared and cut her head open with a screw last year when I moved her to a new barn and she had tons of stitches, she has a tiny scar but its not too bad. Good luck!

  5. Holy cow! That's awful! What in the world happened? How did he get hurt in the first place?

I won't be taking the new horse out for a bit - I want to get to know him for a week or two. We'll get there, no worries.

  6. Ouch! That looks bad. Did they take out a lung? Give him a scratch from me and hope he heals quickly.

  7. Yep! Hella ugly! My instincts told me not to take him back there....damn it. It was just a tiny bump that popped up in front of the girth area in a matter of days. The thing is, cancerous growths pop up that quickly and it just needed to go. I agree, I think they took out at least part of his lung. It must have spread VERY quickly.... -Wry grin-

  8. Poor Jackson! That looks terrible. I feel for both of you! I think we need to find a new vets office for you to go to! Yikes.
Once it's healed up, if you put tea tree oil on it it will help with the hair growing back.

  9. Thanks for the advice Jen! I was wondering what to put on there to aid with hair growth! I got home from vacation and went out to take a look. It doesn't look any better in person!!! I'm taking out the stitches myself, I do NOT want that vet near my horse again!!!

  11. Yowza, poor guy. I'm guessing it won't scar. Did they test it to see if it's cancerous?

  12. UH...HOLY CRAP! Poor boy! OUCH!
Klein had some kind of little bump removed almost a year ago, here's the blog from it http://jumping-percheron.blogspot.com/2008/09/garmin-test-ride-and-minor-surgery.html

I'm sure your boy will heal nicely!
